Recently, the world has witnessed a series of vicious exchanges between the two Middle Eastern enemies that are Israel and Palestine. Israel standing on the right weighing in with a solid shield, ‘The Iron Dome’, infinitely many airstrikes and on left Palestine with its representative, ‘The Hamas Group’. Both the opponents are ready to suck the blood out of each other. Palestine served the first blow by firing some rockets but it didn’t realise the consequences and there came Israel with a strong statement bombarding Gaza with brutal airstrikes.

The two countries have had a long history between them and have taken forward the legacy of wars. Surprisingly we call ourselves ‘HomoSapiens’, the wise man, yet not able to find peace. And all the bloodshed for? For a territory known as East Jerusalem. Properties destroyed, people killed, thousands displaced but who is to blame?

Israel, which has one of the strongest military groups in western Asia, showed Palestine and Hamas a glimpse of what ‘Power’ actually is. But should Israel turn deaf ears to the quote “ With great power, comes great responsibility.” Well, it may be quoted in a fictitious movie but it has much more significance in the current circumstances and the heartbreaking tensions between Israel and Palestine. No doubt Israel can just erase the people residing in East Jerusalem within hours but is it necessary? As a much more powerful force, Israel should actually try to resist this war and I would use another quote here stated by Mahatma Gandhi, “ An eye for an eye would make the world blind.” In this case for every action, there is an excuse. The blame game which is happening right now for every attack either side makes is not something new. If they continue to say for e.g. Israel says, “ They launched rockets so we did airstrikes.” And to this Palestine responds as “ They attacked the protesters in the mosque so we launched rockets.” It will eventually take us all back to the long history which the two communities have had and it will lead to an inescapable loop leaving people with no solution and in the long run, this may lead to a dreadful future for the Palestinians as well as the Israelis as this won’t end until it is desired to end.
